Richard B. "Dick" Sellars, 91, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Morton Hospital in Taunton, after being stricken ill at his home. He was the longtime beloved companion of Rose Ramondetta of Raynham. Born in Stoughton, he was raised and educated in Stoughton. He enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served in World War II from 1942-1946. He was a resident of Avon for many years before recently moving to Raynham. Mr. Sellars worked at several area companies including the BPM and Shaws in their produce departments and at World Publications in Bridgewater for many years. He was very proud of his service as a longtime call fireman in Avon, serving from 1959-1990. Dick loved his work and reluctantly retired at age 85. He was a longtime Red Sox Fan and member of the VFW in Avon. In his free time he enjoyed dining out with the Shaw's Breakfast Club and spending time with his friends and family.
He was the father of Cheryl A. Williams and her companion Mark Bennett of Braintree and the late Richard B. Sellars, Jr., Michael F. Sellars and Mark D. Sellars. He was the father in law of Diane Sellars of Taunton. Dick was the brother of the late Frank Sellars. Dick was the beloved "Papa Steamer" of 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by Patricia Higgins and Roger A. Bouchard both of Taunton. He was predeceased by 1 grandson and 1 great granddaughter.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, October 19 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Michael's Church, 47 N.Main St., Avon at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours will be held Tuesday from 4-7 PM.
