Richard T. "Dick" Murphy, 78, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died at Blue Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton on Saturday, September 24, 2016. He was the husband of the late Anne E. (Hanrahan) Murphy. Son of the late Thomas J. and Dorothy (McNamara) Murphy, he was born in Stoughton and graduated from Coyle Cassidy High School, Class of 1955 and Stonehill College in Easton. Dick was a journalist for several local newspapers for 40 years before retiring 15 years ago. He also was a broadcaster for Stoughton Local News on Stoughton Media Access Corporation for 31 years. Dick was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed reading.
Mr. Murphy is survived by his children, Robert W. Moan of Lincoln, RI, Stephen J. Moan of Stoughton, Nancy J. Lincoln and her husband Dean of Taunton, Kathleen D. Murphy of Norton, Susan M. Cook and her husband Michael of Whitman and Christine A. Murphy of Sharon. He was the grandfather of Lindsey Fisher, Jessica Moan, Emily Cook, Mike Cook, Annie Cook, Walker Moan, Cecelia Moan and Trevor Houston and the great-grandfather of Cameron Fisher and Lylah Blanchard. He was the brother of Robert J. Murphy of Barnstable and Joan Camber of California. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, September 28, at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Assn., 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
