Richard J. McCarthy, 66, died at the Brockton Hospital on Sunday, April 16 after a period of failing health. Born in Brockton, he was a graduate of Brockton High School and received his Associate Degree from Massasoit Community College. Mr. McCarthy was a resident of Bridgewater for 6 months after living in East Bridgewater for 10 years and growing up in Brockton. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam Era. Mr. McCarthy was a Firefighter for the City of Brockton for 28 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Local 144 Firefighter's Union.
Mr. McCarthy is survived by his daughters, Michelle L. Derouen of E. Bridgewater and Cheri L. Monette of Greenfield as well as his grandchildren, Ericka, Kelsey and Ben Derouen and Zephyr Monette and his sisters, Eleanor Smith of CA and Elaine Sherman of Bridgewater. He is also survived by his lifelong companion, Anne Sullivan of Weymouth and his former wife, Kathleen A. (Gallagher) Wade as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, April 20 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Central Cemetery in East Bridgewater. Donations in Richard's name may be made to the Strand Theatre Memorial Fund, PO Box 868, Brockton, 02303.
