Richard G. Holmes, 81, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at Epoch Senior Healthcare in Sharon on Tuesday, October 13 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of 57 years of the late Doris M. (O'Toole) Holmes, who passed away 5 days earlier. Born and raised in Boston, he was educated in Boston schools. He was a resident of Stoughton for 50 years. He was a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Marine Corps and a Veteran of World War II. Mr. Holmes was a truck mechanic for Hallamore Transportation in Holbrook for many years before retiring several years ago. He was a member of the Stoughton Fish and Game and enjoyed fishing, camping and boating in his free time.
Mr. Holmes is survived by his children, Stephen P. Holmes of Bridgewater, Michael R. Holmes, Christine Cofsky and Kim Tracey all of Stoughton, Katherine O'Brien of E. Bridgewater and Karen Coffey of Sharon. He was the brother of the late Bernadette Buchanan and the uncle of Nancy Malloy of Plymouth. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
