Richard J. Francis, 75, died at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Tuesday, October 4 after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Ruth E. (Roche) Francis for 52 years. Born in Boston, he grew up in S. Boston and graduated from B.C High School, Class of 1947. He lived in Dorchester for over 30 years before moving to Stoughton 6 years ago. Mr. Francis was a Pressman at the Boston Globe for 42 years before retiring 13 years ago. He was also a Pressman at the Enterprise in Brockton for several years. Mr. Francis was a member of the Pressman's Union, Local 3 and a former "Spark" with the Boston Fire Dept. He was a member of Florian Hall and the Boston Globe Stream and Forest Club. In his free time, he enjoyed playing the Lottery, watching the Red Sox, vacationing in Marco Island, FL and spending time with his grandchildren at Castle Island.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Francis is survived by his children, Richard Francis, Brockton FD and his wife Mary, Jo-Ann Batakis and her husband Richard and John Francis and his wife Susan all of Brockton, William Francis, Stoughton PD and his wife Barbara and Carolyn Francis both of Stoughton, Elizabeth Carpenter and her husband the late Gary of N. Attleboro and Christopher Francis and his wife Kristen of Weymouth. He was the grandfather of Richard Batakis, Christopher Batakis, Savannah Cohen, John, Amanda, Michael, Kevin, Kyle, Nicole, Kate Elizabeth and Courtney Francis. He was the brother of Msgr.William C. Francis, former Chaplain Boston PD of S. Boston.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Edith Stein Church, Brockton at 11 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday 4-8 PM. Donations in Richard's name may be made to the American Diabetes Assn., 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, 02210. Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Boston.
