Richard A. Dorschied

Richard A. Dorschied, age 68, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband to Mary R. Broderick for 13 years. Born in New Bedford, he was the son of Pauline (Bonville) Chase and the late Albert Chase. Raised and educated in Fairhaven, he was a graduate of Fairhaven High School, Class of 1975, and was a longtime resident of the town. He was a route salesman for Wonder Bread for 32 years before retiring at age 52. After retirement, he went on to earn his construction license, pursuing his passion in life working as a contractor. He had a remarkable ability to build and repair anything that was broken leaving behind a lasting impact with his craftsmanship. He loved swimming at the pool or at the beach, and traveling in his spare time. He took pride in his strong political views and was a huge Trump supporter. Above all, his greatest joy was his family, especially being a devoted “Gramps” to his dear grandchildren. It was a precious joy of his to spend time and make memories with his family.

In addition to his wife, Rich is survived by his children Amy Dorschied and her husband Joshua Miller of Fairhaven, Eric Dorschied and his wife Lauren of Wilmington, NC, and his stepchildren, Christopher McClenning of Cranston, RI, Brendan Slowey and his wife Elizabeth of Foxboro, and Dean Slowey and his wife Alyssa of Walpole. He was the brother to Edward Dorschied, Marc Dorschied, and Susan Chase, and was preceded in death by James Chase and Gail Holka. He was the beloved “Gramps” to Lyla Dorschied, Noah Harrison and Hannah Dorschied. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.
