Richard L. "Dick" Batchelder, 84, died Sunday, January 7, 2007 at the Brockton Hospital in Brockton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Barbara W. (Winship) Batchelder. Born in Stoughton, he was a graduate of Stoughton Schools, Class of 1940. He also attended Maltby School of Business and American Institute of Banking. Mr. Batchelder was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy. Mr. Batchelder worked for over 32 years for Randolph Savings Bank; the last 18 years as Bank President. He retired in 1989. Prior to that he worked for Norfolk County Trust. Mr. Batchelder was very active in Stoughton. He was a Charter Member and Past King Lion of the Stoughton Lions Club. He was also the Zone Chairman 33K for the Lions Club. Mr. Batchelder was also active in the First Parish Universalist Church in Stoughton Center as a member of the 1st Parish Club and Board Member. He was also a member of the Oddfellows in Stoughton.
He is survived by his children: John M. Batchelder of Stoughton and Nancy J. Colp of Bridgewater. He was the brother of Warren F. of NH, Barbara A. Clifford of Mashpee, Phyllis Conrad of Middleboro, Evelyn Buschenfeldt of Mashpee and Charles Batchelder of Middleboro. Mr. Batchelder is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the First Parish Universalist Church, 790 Washington St, Stoughton, 02072 on Thursday, January 11 at 11AM. Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 PM in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton. Donations in Dick's name may be made to 1st Parish Universalist Church, at the above address or to Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, 02368. Burial will be private.
