Rene J. Cabrera, 71, a longtime resident of Stoughton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Monday, March 7, 2016. He was the husband of Leovigilda C. (Camot) Cabrera for 46 years. Son of Adelaida (Jopson) Cabrera of Brockton and the late Candelario Cabrera, he was born and raised in Jaro, Iloilo City, Philippines. He was a graduate of W.I.T. in the Philippines, earning his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Rene was a resident of Stoughton for the past 35 years after living in Brockton for 8 years. He was a Mechanical Engineer for Johnson & Johnson in New Bedford for 35 years and he patented several medical instruments before retiring in 2006. Mr. Cabrera was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Cabrera is survived by his children, Renelle C. Weiler and her husband Douglas of Bridgewater and Regel P. Cabrera and his wife Alison of Dedham. He was the loving Lolo of Trevor and Alex Weiler and Riley and Kaleigh Cabrera. He was the brother of Remia Onario of Brockton, Ray Cabrera of Stoughton and Raul Cabrera of Marietta, GA and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, March 12 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Rene's memory may be made to American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
