Ralph E. Durling, 89, died Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, MA after a short illness. Born, raised and educated in Holbrook, MA, he was a longtime resident of Stoughton, before moving to New Hampshire and eventually settling down in Atkinson, NH about 12 years ago. Mr. Durling was a World War II Veteran of the US Navy. He was aboard the USS Stokes during the battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima and was present for the raising of the flag on Mount Suribachi. He worked as a Truck Driver for several area companies, including Cohenno Trucking and Lopez Trucking as well as owning and operating his own trucks. He was a Life Member of the VFW in Stoughton. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Mr. Durling was once married to the late Jean E. Durling and the father of Ralph M. Durling and David J. Durling, both of NH, Maureen L. Lombardi and James R. Durling both of MA, and the late Robert C. Durling. He was the brother of Richard Durling of CT, Ruthanne Gruntmeyer of MA and the late Charles Durling and Gloria Durling. Mr. Durling is also survived by 6 grandchildren with one predeceased, several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, February 27 at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:00 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday from 1-4 PM. Interment will take place at St Michael's Cemetery, Avon, MA.
