Primo Joseph Tallarida, 90, died at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester, MA on Tuesday, October 11, 2011. Primo was born on April 17, 1921 in Brockton, MA. He was the son of the late Nina and Giovanni Tallarida. Primo worked for F.C. Phillips Company for 12 years and in 1951 went to work with his brothers-in-law at Simonds Chevrolet. In June of 1953 his entrepreneurial spirit took over and he decided to open his own machine shop in a 12 x 12 shed and Stoughton Tool and Die Company was started. In 1972 he built a facility on Turnpike Street in Stoughton, MA which still stands today. He successfully ran the business for many years before retiring in 1986. His sons still run the business today under the name STD Med, Inc. Primo lived a full life sharing his time between Massachusetts and Florida. He was happiest when surrounded by friends and family as was apparent by his endless smile. He wanted to send a special note to his friends of the BGA of Hernando, FL to "hit em' straight." Mr. Tallarida was a Private in U.S. Army and a Veteran of World War II. He was a P.K.L. of the Stoughton Lions Club and Chairman of the Stoughton Industrial Commission from 1957-1961. He was a member of the Stoughton Chamber of Commerce and Thorny Lee Golf Club in Brockton. He was a Past President of the Boston Chapter of the National Tool & Die Association in 1977.
Primo is survived by his loving wife, Dixie Malatras of Clinton, MA and Hernando, FL; his children, Elaine Barca and her husband Frank of VA, Robert Tallarida of Argentina, Marybeth Machesney and her husband Michael of VA, Jon Tallarida and his wife Annette of Hanover, MA and Steven Tallarida and his wife Susanne of Mansfield, MA as well as his 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Bianca Spinoza of NJ and Stenio Tallarida of MA and pre-deceased by his sisters Pia Szymkiewicz and Gloria Cristiani.
Funeral Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Saturday, October 15 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 4-7 PM. Burial will take place at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Additional services will be held in Florida at a later date for his many good friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in Primo's memory may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, 10 Judith Rd., Worcester, MA 01602.
