Phyllis E. (Kane) Kelleher, 86, died Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at the Carney Hospital in Dorchester, after a short period of declining health. Born in Boston, she was raised in Dorchester and was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in Dorchester. She was also a graduate of Boston State College where she studied Elementary Education and minored in music. In 1963, she married Joseph L. Kelleher and together they shared over 60 years of marriage and raised two beloved daughters. She was a resident of Stoughton for many years and also enjoyed spending her summers in South Yarmouth.
Phyllis was a beloved teacher in the Stoughton School System for over 40 years, retiring many years ago. She taught at several Stoughton schools, including the Gibbons, Jones, Dawe and the O’Donnell Middle School and retired as the Assistant Principal of the Gibbons School. Phyllis was a sports lover and was a Basketball Referee for several years. She was a member of the Mass Teachers Association and the Kappa Delta Phi Society.
In addition to her husband Joseph, Phyllis is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen K. Utech and her husband Jon of Moreland Hills, Ohio and Christine Kelleher of Stoughton. She was the grandmother of Christopher Utech, Joy Utech and Emily Utech. She was the sister of Kathy Calapa of Hanover and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, October 20th at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday, October 19th from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
