Phillip D. Schmeer, 54, a resident of Brockton, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. He was the loving husband of 14 years of Kathleen M. (Bruce) Schmeer. Born in Rochester, NY, to Victor and Irene (Lohman) Schmeer, he was raised and educated in Rochester until age 13 at which point he moved to Cape Cod and eventually settled in Yarmouth. He was a graduate of Dennis Yarmouth High School, Class of 1982. Phil worked for several Cape Cod Restaurants as a chef, including the Captain's Chair in Hyannis, the Cummaquid Golf Club and Fred's Turkey House both in Yarmouth. Eventually he opened his own restaurant, The New Moon in Harwichport, which he ran for several years. Recently, he worked in Landscaping and lawn care, at Scotts Lawn Care and most recently at Yukon Landscaping in Raynham. Phil was a Parrothead and loved going to Jimmy Buffett Concerts, golfing, fishing, his 1979 Trans Am, traveling to Florida and North Conway and camping. He was a member of the Cape Cod Dart League at Captain Parker's in Yarmouth. Phil loved spending time with family and friends at Chapin Beach, shopping with his beloved wife, scratch tickets and keno and anything that included Peanut Butter and Chocolate. He was an animal lover, especially his dogs, Midnight and Chloe. Friends often referred to him as McGyver due to his ability to fix almost anything and his love of gadgets.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brothers; David Caluori and his wife Mary, Edmund Caluori, Daniel Schmeer and Robert Schmeer all of NY. He was the brother in law of Stephen Bruce, David Bruce and his wife Karen and Joseph Bruce and his wife Heather. Phil was the uncle of Michael Caluori, Stephanie Caluori, Brandon, Erica, Riley, Ian and Ezra Schmeer, Brian and Marissa Caluori, Ryan, Patryck, and Kaitlyn Schmeer, Lindsay Bruce, Kaitlyn Dudley-Cheney, Nicole Dudley-Bruce, Olivia Dudley-Bruce, Jake Bruce, Devon, Andrew and Kiera Bruce. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial Prayers will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Sunday at 4 PM. Visiting Hours prior to the prayers from 2-4 PM.
