Dr. Peter J. Sperandio, 90, died Tuesday at his home after a long illness. He was the husband of 66 years of Ann M. (McCarthy) Sperandio. Born in Marlboro, MA, he was raised there and a graduate of Marlboro Schools. He was also a graduate of St. Anselm College in New Hampshire. At both Marlboro High and St. Anselm's, he was the president of the student body and captain of the football team. Dr. Sperandio furthered his studies with his Master's of Education at Boston University and his Doctorate in Education from Boston College. He worked as the Principal of Stoughton High School from 1966 until his retirement in 1978. Previously, he was the Principal of West Bridgewater High School from 1951 to 1966. He was a resident of Stoughton for over 55 years and also enjoyed a vacation home on West Island in Fairhaven for many years.
During his career, Dr. Sperandio was very involved with high school sports as a referee and coach as well as with the Hocomock League. He was an avid and accomplished golfer and was a member of Easton Country Club. In his free time, he also enjoyed sports and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Mary A. Dempsey of Easton, Margaret P. McEwan of Whitman, Kathleen A. Bernier of Hanson, Eileen M. of Canton and Nancy E. Sullivan of Stoughton and his son John D. Sperandio of Germany. He was the brother of Antoinette Arcabascio of Marlboro, John Sperandio of Brockton and Anthony Sperandio of NH. He was predeceased by his son Richard P. Sperandio and his brother Nazareth. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, May 11 at 8:45 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9:45 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday 4-8 PM. Donations in Peter's name may be made to St. Anselm Fund, 100 St. Anselm Dr., Manchester, NH 03102. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
