Paula J. (Hart) Ross, 76, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, December 28. Born January 1, 1935, she was the first New Year's baby born in Boston. She was raised in Jamaica Plain and graduated from Jamaica Plain High School, Class of 1953. Mrs. Ross was a resident of Stoughton for over 50 years. She was a switchboard operator for many years, working at Carney Hospital in Dorchester, Cumberland Farms and Baker Shoe both in Canton before retiring 11 years ago. An avid Boston sports fan, she also enjoyed travelling with friends and especially spending time with her family.
Mrs. Ross is survived by her children, Patricia L. Thomas and her husband Jeffrey of Easton, Diane M. Mullen and her husband Michael of Wareham, Kathryn Butler and her husband Paul of Stoughton and Kenneth B. Ross and his wife Sarah of Rochester. She was the sister of Robert Hart of Belmont and the late Jack, Jean, Edward and George Hart and Virginia McDonnell. She was the beloved grandmother to 8 grandchildren and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Saturday, December 31 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 4-8 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Paula's memory may be sent to Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
