Paul V. McCarthy, 71, a longtime resident of Brockton, died peacefully at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. He was the husband of Pauline A. (Quinn) McCarthy. Son of the late John F. and Mary L. (Murphy) McCarthy, he was born in Boston and raised in Dorchester. Paul was a graduate of Boston Latin High School, Class of 1962 and Boston College, Class of 1966. He was a resident of Brockton for the past 30 years after living in Kingston for 4 years. Paul was a Specialist 5th Class in the U.S. Army and a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was the Chief Financial Officer at the VA Medical Center in Brockton for over 15 years before retiring in 1995. Prior to that, he was a budget analyst for O.M.B. in Washington, DC for 5 years. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed trips to Twin River Casino and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by his children, Laura B. Sanda and her husband Richard and Andrew J. McCarthy all of Kingston and Patrick T. Mullaney of Oakland, CA, as well as his grandchildren, Sydney and Annie Sanda. He was the brother of John McCarthy of Gorham, ME.
A Graveside Service will be held at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave. Bourne on Friday, December 9 at 11 AM. Visiting hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul's memory may be made to American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
