Paul G. Johnson

Rev. Paul G. Johnson, 82, a longtime resident of Brockton, died April 22, at the Tippett Hospice Home in Needham surrounded by his family. He was the husband of 57 years of Miriam J. (Anderson) Johnson. Born in Moline, IL, he was a graduate of Augustana College and Seminary and earned his Doctorate in Ministry (D.Min) from Andover Newton Seminary in Newton. After graduation, he accepted a call to the Research Dept. of the Lutheran Church in America, the predecessor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, headquartered in Philadelphia, where he served for 9 years before moving to Stoughton in 1986. In his 55 years of ordained ministry, he served in Brockton, at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (formerly Gethsemane Lutheran Church) from 1965-1970 and Abington at St. Mark's Church (formerly Joy in Christ Church) as well as in Connecticut.

In his retirement he taught World Religions and Sociology at Mass Bay Community College as an Adjunct Professor. During his lifetime, he wrote seven books, the most recent being GOD'S HYBRID SON: THE HUMAN ELEMENT IN JESUS, published in 2010.

In addition to his wife, Pastor Johnson is survived by his daughter Paula Johnson of GA and his son Philip Johnson and his wife Ellen of Andover. He was the grandfather of Seth Johnson of UPenn and Rebecca Johnson of Barnard College. He is also survived by his sister Janice Coulter and her husband Jim of SC.

A Memorial Service will be held in the First Lutheran Church, 900 Main St., Brockton on Saturday, May 4, at 10:30AM. Visiting Hours Omitted. Arrangements by Farley Funeral Home, Stoughton.
