Paul J. McCarthy, 75, died Friday, April 14, 2023 at the AccentCare (Seasons) Hospice Center in Milton, surrounded by his beloved family. Son of the late James F. and Alice P. (Dunford) McCarthy, he was born, raised and educated in Quincy, he was a 1965 graduate of North Quincy High School. He also graduated from Yale-New Haven School of Inhalation. In 1968, he married Eileen A. Mowles and together they shared over 54 years of marriage and raised two daughters. Paul and Eileen moved their young family to Stoughton in 1971. He worked as a respiratory therapist for many years at several different health care facilities, including Quincy City Hospital, the Beth Israel Hospital, the Mass Hospital School and retired from the New England Sinai Hospital at age 63. He was a member of the Mass Society of Respiratory Therapists. Paul enjoyed golfing and photography and loved traveling on trains. He would take trips on trains throughout the east coast and to the Midwest whenever possible. He also enjoyed reading and music, especially Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Billy Joel. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Paul is survived by his wife Eileen A. (Mowles) McCarthy of Stoughton and his daughter Kimberly A. Newbury and her husband Capt. Bradford A. Newbury (Stoughton FD) of Bridgewater. He was also the father of the late Shannon M. McCarthy, who died two weeks earlier, on March 30. He was Grumpa of Hannah Carpenter, Colin Newbury and his wife Courtaney, Bridget Lowder and her husband Brett and Kiera Newbury and her partner Kyle Hyson. Paul was the brother of Mary Anne Marre of Quincy, Michael McCarthy of Weymouth, Lucy Demers of Plymouth, Patricia McCarthy of Halifax and Kathleen Laubenthal of Malden. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 4-7 PM. Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Friday, April 21 at 9:00 followed by a Funeral Mass at the St. James Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Interment will take place at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to Seasons Hospice Foundation, https://seasonsfoundation.org/donate.
