Patrick Raymond Toomey

Patrick Raymond Toomey, age 71 passed away peacefully at his residence in Stoughton on March 24, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife Ann E. (LeBlanc) Toomey. Born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Robert and Renee Toomey. As a young boy, Patrick spent summers along the Jersey shore where he enjoyed sailing in his Sunfish sailboat which he participated in competitive racing. He also enjoyed playing soccer in the fall and skiing in the winter. In his adult life, Patrick was an avid skier, skiing both eastern and western mountain peaks. He also enjoyed playing on an adult co-ed soccer team as well as golfing, kayaking, tennis and pickle ball. Patrick had his struggles growing up as he was diagnosed with dyslexia which created learning issues which he overcame. He attended Christian Brothers Academy then was accepted to both Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) after scoring perfect scores in both the chemistry and math sections of his Scholastic Aptitude Test (SATs). He chose WPI in which he received a Bachelor of Science with distinction in 1975. He then moved to Palo Alto, Ca and attended Leland Stanford University graduating with a Master of Science in 1976. Pat then headed east to start his work career with Sprague Electric in Worcester then moving on in 1980 to the Raytheon Corporation Microwave and Power Tube Division located in Quincy. Patrick worked there for 15 years working his way up to manager of the drafting department. One of Patrick’s biggest accomplishments was that he helped design a portion of the Patriot Missile. Raytheon moved that division to Phoenix and the land became a Home Depot. In 1994, Pat was hired as the Engineering Manager/VP of a company called Automatic Controls. This company designed electronics for industrial washing machines. In 2004, he was hired by Bascom Turner as a senior engineer, designing electronics for the handheld gas sensors that are used by National Grid and Ever source. Patrick’s career ended there in 2017 after the effects of his head injury started to show its ugly side.

Patrick met his dear wife Ann back in 1980, where they were neighbors in a condo complex in Marlboro. They spent a great deal of time together making fond memories and raising their family together. In 1984, they bought a house in Stoughton and married on September 7, 1985. Pat and Ann loved to travel, going away at least twice a year, sometimes three times. Family trips were full of challenges and memories. Pat was a quiet man, who hated to be in the limelight. He had so many accomplishments but was so humble about it all. Pat dealt with his disease for 10 years and he fought the fight, until finally his body said enough. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife Ann, he is survived by his son Patrick Daniel Toomey of Austin, TX. He is also survived by his siblings Sean Toomey and his wife Paula of AZ, Maureen Toomey of WA, Rosemary Toomey of West Roxbury, and was preceded in death by his sister Kathleen Toomey of Salt Lake City. He leaves behind his nieces and nephews, Bailey and Hayden Armos, and Benjamin and Lukas Hofmann, as well as several cousins all around the U.S.
