Owen F. Gillis, 74, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the Tufts Medical Center in Boston after a short illness. Born in Boston, he was raised in Dorchester and was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Boston. Mr. Gillis was a Veteran of the United States Navy. He worked as a Postal Clerk for the United States Postal Services in several of Boston's neighborhood Post Offices. He also worked as a clerk at Page's Market in Stoughton for over 30 years. Mr. Gillis was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Amvets, both in Stoughton and was a former player in the Stoughton Cribbage League. He was a friend of Bill W. An avid Boston sports fan, in his free time, he enjoyed watching sports and playing cribbage and playing computer games.
Mr. Gillis is survived by his siblings: Rita M. Kerwin of Stoughton, Wilfred A. Gillis, Jr. of ME and his former wife Janet L. Gillis of Rowley, Mady A. Hampton and her husband Sheldon of Avon and Margie E. Tarpey and her husband Bernie of Bridgewater. He was the beloved uncle of Lisa Day, David Kerwin, Jessica Quattrucci, Jaime Gillis, Dawn Farlardeau, Suzanne Rakutis, M ichelle Mendonca, Melissa Chicoine, Gregory Hampton, Amy Small, Stacy Tarpey, Shawn Tarpey, Meg Tarpey and Alex Tarpey. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral Prayers will be offered in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, June 11 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours Friday, June 10, from 5-8 PM. Interment will be private.
