Norris L. "Lee" Aten, 69, a longtime resident of Avon, died peacefully at the VA Medical Center in Brockton on Monday, April 10, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Janis M. (Kosinski) Aten for the past 20 years and the late Julia E. (Capuano) Aten, whom he was married to for 27 years. Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, he was a resident of Avon for 20 years after living in Brockton for 25 years. Norris was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps and a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He earned his Associate Degree from Rhode Island Community College and attended Bryant College in Smithfield, RI. Norris was a Quality Assurance Engineer for Raytheon for 30 years before retiring in 2007. He was a founding member of the Avon Fish and Game. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8892 in Avon and the D.A.V. in Braintree. An avid golfer, he was a member of Cedar Hill Golf Club in Stoughton. He was a dedicated Boston sports fan and enjoyed reading. A lover of all animals, he especially loved his dogs, Ollie, Tasha, Candy Cane and Leroy.
In addition to his wife, Norris is survived by his children, Paul L. Aten of Milford, Michael A. Aten and his wife Lisa of Brockton and Julie A. Bellas and her husband Elias of Raynham. He was the grandfather of Francis, Michael, Taylor and Ashley Aten and Eleni, Marina and Alexander Bellas. He was the brother of Gerald Aten and his wife Dorene of Michigan and the late Noraline Aten. He is also survived by his beloved friend, Robert Scott of Hull and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, April 13 from 4-7 PM. Funeral Service and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Norris' memory may be made to the VA Medical Center, Voluntary Service (135), 150 S. Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130 (please include Oncology Dept. in Memo) or VFW Post 8892, 263 E. Main St., Avon, MA 02322.
