Michael E. Remis, 66, a longtime resident of Readville, died Thursday, October 23, at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury after a period of failing health. Born in Somerville, he was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Boston. He was a resident of Canton for the past year. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Remis worked as a Security Guard for Gillette in South Boston for over 20 years, retiring 2 years ago. Previously, he worked for Columbia Packing. In his free time, he enjoyed playing bingo, cards and Keno.
He is survived by his siblings John M. Remis of Readville and Marshfield, Eleo F. Remis of Canton and Maryellen McNeal of Weymouth. He was the uncle of Theresa Remis, Christopher Remis, Kim Remis, Amanda Remis and Jennifer McNeal. He was the Great Uncle of Samantha Miller.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, October 27 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Gerard Majella Church, Canton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday 3-6 PM. Donations in Michael's name may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, 01701 or to American Lung Association, 25 Spring St., Walpole, 02081. Burial will be at VA National Cemetery, Bourne.
