Merelyn A. (Tobey) Walent, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on her 94th birthday with her loving daughter by her side. She was the wife of the late Walter A. Walent. Daughter of the late George L. and Edna (Nelson) Tobey, she was born in Stoughton. She was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1945 and Bridgewater State College, Class of 1949. Merelyn was a school teacher for the Town of Stoughton for many years, teaching at the Kimball, Jones and Capen Schools until retiring in 1967 when she gave birth to her daughter, Amy. She returned to the Stoughton schools as a substitute teacher when her daughter was older. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and knitting in her free time.
Merelyn is survived by her daughter, Amy L. Walent of Stoughton. She was the sister of the late Charles Tobey.
Graveside Service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, 1100 Washington St., Stoughton on Thursday, June 17 at 11 AM. Donations in Merelyn's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
