Matilde M. (Serpa) Hayes, 52, died Sunday, January 31 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a lengthy illness. She was the mother of Eugene J. Hayes IV and Curtis V. Hayes both of Brockton. Born in Lajedo, Flores, Portugal, she moved to the United States and settled in Stoughton. She attended Stoughton Schools and graduated from Stoughton High School. She was a resident of
Brockton for the past 20 years. She was a clerk for the Court Street Market in Brockton for many years. In her free time she enjoyed riding motorcycles, watching her son race ATVs, going on trips to Foxwoods and Atlantic City, and mostly spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her sons, she is survived by her parents, Joseph R. and Maria (Coelho) Serpa of Stoughton. She is also survived by her sister, Grace King of Brockton and her brother, Joseph Serpa and his wife Tammy of Taunton as well as her stepdaughters, Gina McLaughlin of North Reading and Melinda Hayes of Easton and several nieces, nephews and one great niece.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Thursday, February 4 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
