Mary C. "Kitsy" (Sugrue) Toomey, 81, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Saturday, September 22 in Stoughton after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Toomey. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Anna and Daniel Sugrue. Kitsy was a graduate of Roxbury High School. She enjoyed working as a bookkeeper to many local businesses in town. She spent many winters with her husband and family in Royal Palm Beach, FL. Kitsy was a member of the Stoughton Irish American Society. She loved to spend time with her friends at Foxwoods and enjoyed playing bingo.
She was the loving mother to her two daughters: Margaret L. "Peggy" Toomey and Kathleen A. "Kathy" Toomey both of Franklin, and her sons, Richard of Stoughton and Joseph of Easton. She was the loving sister of Jeanne Pettinelli of Quincy, Teresa "Toots" Brennan of Stoughton, Margaret "Peggy" Sugrue-Temple of Ft. Meyers, FL and the late Joseph and Daniel Sugrue and Joan McLaughlin. She was the grandmother of Meaghan, Patrick and Brendon Toomey and is also survived by many friends and family.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday, September 25 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Monday, 4-7 PM. Burial will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations in Kitsy's memory to the Alzheimers Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472 or to the charity of one's choice.
