Mary Dineen (Healey) Foster, 86, died Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after a period of declining health. She was the wife of 64 years of F. Leo Foster. Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of Helen (Clark) Healey and Vincent Healey. Mary received her primary education in Stoughton at St. Mary's School then attended St. Margaret's High School in Brockton, graduating in 1950. She continued her studies and followed her passion for helping others at the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Foster was a resident of Rogerson House in Jamaica Plain for the past 3 years and previously was a longtime resident of Stoughton.
She had a rewarding and successful career as a Registered Nurse working in multiple settings through the years and retired from the Stoughton VNA 20 years ago. Throughout her life and in retirement Mary enjoyed knitting and crocheting and especially loved to make thoughtful gifts for her children and grandchildren.
Mary was a lover of language, an avid reader and particularly enjoyed historical novels and biographies. A longtime Democrat, she relished a healthy debate and took pride in being well informed. Mary had a great sense of humor and shared it generously in the company of her extended family and friends, including those at Rogerson House.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Susan Foster of East Bridgewater, David Foster, his wife Cathy and their daughter Emily of Hanover, NH, Leanne Foster of Worcester and Thomas Foster, his wife Carrie and their daughter Rylie of Troy, MI. Mary is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins with whom she shared many happy friendships.
Private family services were held with interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton. Donations in Mary's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
