Marie E. (Tobin) Sheehan, 86, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully Thursday, July 19, 2012, after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Patrick J. Sheehan, a dedicated mother of seven children and a loving grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Sheehan was a life-long advocate for those who could not advocate for themselves. Always a catalyst for change, her 20 years of leadership and innovation as the Director of Community Services at Catholic Charities in Brockton touched countless lives. She founded The MainSpring House and Shelter in Brockton and was Co-Founder of the south shore region of Lost Coin Women's Fund, a foundation that provides scholarships for women to continue their education. She was a proud member of the Massachusetts Women's Church and the Stoughton Historical Society and was a passionate adult learner who earned a Masters Degree in Pastoral Counseling from Emmanuel College. Her life inspired those around her to overcome, persevere and achieve.
She is survived by her children; Kathleen J. Ciccolo and Suzanne M. Paster both of Hanover, Kevin P. of TX, Mary E. Hughes of Halifax, Brianne S. Sheehan Battle of Canton, Terrance P. of Boston and John P. of Lexington. She was the grandmother of Patrick and Christopher Sheehan, Maria and Abigail Ciccolo, Meaghan Hughes, Caroline Paster, William Battle and Greer and Harrison Sheehan. She was the great grandmother of Alice Marie Sheehan, Grace and Cecelia Sheehan. She was the sister of Robert Tobin of CT, Claire Ivaldi of Stoughton and the late Richard Tobin. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday, July 24 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Monday from 4-8. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Marie's memory may be made to the Lost Coin Women's Club, P.O.
