Marie C. Cotter died peacefully Wednesday, August 27, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She was 87. Born and raised in Stoughton, she lived in Stoughton all her life and was a graduate of Stoughton Schools. Ms. Cotter worked as a Telephone Operator for New England Telephone and Verizon for many years, retiring in 1986. She was a lifelong communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Marie was a dedicated and loving aunt to her nieces and nephews and was a constant positive presence in their lives. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family and weekends with them on the Cape.
She was the beloved sister and best friend of Regina A. Connolly of Stoughton and the late James Cotter, Leo Cotter, Eugene Cotter and Gerald Cotter. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Patti Kovalski, Jane McGuirk, Diane Gemba, Drs. John and Kathy Connolly, Kathy Cotter, Kevin Cotter and Jimmy Cotter, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral will be held from Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, August 30 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 5-7 PM. Donations in Marie's memory may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton, 02072. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
