Maria (Mendonca) Pedro, 87, died Friday, October 14, 2022, at her home, after a long period of declining health. Born in Caveira on the island of Flores in the Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Adelina and Francisco Mendonca. She was raised and educated in Caveira. In January of 1957, she married Jose Pedro in Caveira, and together they enjoyed over 53 years of marriage and raised 6 children, before his death in 2010. In 1963, Maria came to the United States with her husband and young family and settled in Stoughton. She worked as an Electronics Assembler at several area businesses for many years. A longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton, she was a member of the Holy Ghost Society at Club Luis de Camoes in Stoughton. Maria was skilled at crocheting and would give her crocheted blankets and scarves as Christmas gifts to her children and grandchildren every year. She was a devoted friend to many and was known as the “Queen of Malassadas” for her cooking and always insisted that neither family nor friends leave her house hungry. Above all, Maria cherished her time surrounded by her large beloved family.
Mrs. Pedro is survived by her five daughters, Maria M. Vasconcelos and her husband Joao, Isilda M. Pimentel and her husband Jose, Flora P. Semiao and Adelina Pedro all of Stoughton and Isabel P. Carvalho and her husband Jay of Fall River. She was predeceased by her son Alfredo J. Pedro and his wife Aldina. She was the loving Avo of Michael, Nicole, William, Melissa, Jacqueline, Joshua, Daniel and Meghan and the great grandmother of Allie, Andrew, Aubrey and Ellianna. Maria was the sister of Francisco Mendonca, Victoria Henriques, Joao Mendonca, Isilda Costa, Adelaide Mendonca all of Stoughton, Manuel Mendonca of Easton, Bernadette Aguiar of Stoughton, Laura Rodrigues of Norton and the late Jose, Alberto, Mauricio and Adelina Mendonca. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Maria’s memory may be made to the St. Anthony’s Food Pantry, 2 Park Ave., Stoughton, 02072.
