Maria J. (Coelho) Serpa

Maria J. (Coelho) Serpa, 92, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Joseph R. Serpa. Daughter of the late João F. and Maria Luisa (Paiva) Coelho, she was born and raised in Flores, Azores, Portugal. Maria and her family migrated to America in the late 1960’s and settled in Stoughton in the house that she loved. Her and her husband worked in different factories in the area to support her family. In the late 1980’s, Maria and her family fulfilled a dream of owning a business, The Court Street Market & Deli in Brockton, where her family would work together for almost 30 years. She worked tirelessly to raise her children, grandchildren and any others that needed help. 

Maria was the mother of Grace M. Serpa of Stoughton, Joseph Serpa and his wife Tammy of Taunton and the late Matilde M. Hayes and grandmother of Gene Hayes, Curtis Hayes and his wife Jessica, Melissa Gallagher and her husband Tomas, Christine Serpa, Amanda Dubeau and her wife Katie, Emily Serpa, and the late Kevin Serpa. She was the sister of Helen Coelho and Ines Jorge both of Stoughton and the late Serafina Coelho and Maria R. Tomas. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. 

Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Monday, December 9 from 4-7 PM. Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 10 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
