Maria L. Furtado

Maria L. (Valadao) Furtado, 87, died Monday, August 23, 2010, at the Brockton Hospital in Brockton. She was the wife of the late Carlos J. Furtado. Born in Corvo, Azores, Portugal, she was raised and educated there. She moved the United States in 1970 and settled in Stoughton. Mrs. Furtado worked for Morse Shoe in Canton for many years, before retiring at age 62. She was a member of the Holy Ghost of the Azores Society and the Holy Ghost Society at Club Luis de Camoes, both in Stoughton. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and watching television.
She is survived by her children; Antonio F. Furtado, Maria J. Marcal and Lourdes M. Camara all of Stoughton. She was the sister of Idalcida Costa of Portugal. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 3 granddaughters.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Friday, August 27 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 North Main St., Unit 104, Natick, MA 01760.
