Maria Eugenia Freitas, long time resident of Stoughton, MA, died Thursday, February 1, 2018 at her home. Born in Santa Maria, Portugal on October 26, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria Freitas. Mrs. Freitas was raised and educated in Santa Maria. She lived in Santa Maria for many years and raised her family there. In 1980, along with her husband, she moved to the United States and settled in Stoughton, where she has lived since. Mrs. Freitas worked for Reliable Plating in Canton for several years, retiring many years ago. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, reading, watching TV and spending time with her beloved family.
In November 1948, she married the love of her life, the late Antonio Resendes. Together they had six children. She is survived by her four daughters Virginia Rego and her late husband Joseph Rego of FL, Connie Andrade and her husband Antonio Andrade, Zelia Sousa and her husband Dinis Sousa all of Stoughton and Fatima Silva and her fiancé Tony Gouveia of FL. She is also survived by her former son-in-law Samuel Silva. She is survived by her brother José Freitas and sister Ilda Freitas both of Portugal and the late Sarafina Freitas, Helena Freitas, and Liontina Freitas. Mrs. Freitas was the grandmother of Jason, Elsa, Michael, Tony, Dennis, Jenny, Maura, and Marco and was the loving great-grandmother of 14 and was awaiting her 15th great-grandchild. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27), Stoughton on Tuesday, February 6 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Monday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
