Maria E. (Pontes) Fernandes

Maria E. (Pontes) Fernandes, 81, died at her home on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Antonio Fernandes. Know at "Tia Nharmun" to friends and family, she was born, raised and educated in Fogo, Cape Verde. Mrs. Fernandes came to the United States over 40 years ago and settled in Roxbury. She was a resident of Roxbury until two years ago when she moved to Stoughton. She worked at the Auburn Curtain Factory in Boston for 17 years, retiring many years ago. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved family.

Mrs. Fernandes is survived by her daughter Mae F. Teixeira of Stoughton, and her son Richard A. Fernandes of Taunton. She was the grandmother of Kasilda Teixeira, Kylia Teixeira, Anthony Fernandes and Ryan E. Fernandes. She was the sister of Jose Pontes and Josefina Teixeira both of Boston and was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the St. Patrick's Church, 10 Magazine St., Roxbury, on Thursday, August 16, at 10:30 M. Visiting Hours will be held in the church on Wednesday, August 15, from 5-8 PM. Family will also be receiving guests at the Rising Star Masonic Lodge, 925 Pleasant St. (Rte 139) Stoughton on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11AM-6 PM each day. Expressions of sympathy and sympathy cards may be sent to Maria's family at PO Box 996, Easton, MA 02334. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
