Maria doCarmo (Lima) Gomes

Maria doCarmo (Lima) Gomes, 82, died Sunday, November 27, 2022, at the St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston, after a period of declining health.  She was the wife of the late Jose F. Gomes.  Born on the island of San Jorge in the Azores, she was raised in Terceira, Portugal and came to the United States in 1960 and settled in Stoughton in 1966.  She worked for Datel and Motorola in Mansfield for many years and retired over 10 years ago.  Maria was a longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton and was a member of the Portuguese National Club in Stoughton and the Holy Ghost Society in Bridgewater.  In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting. 

Maria was the mother of Paul G. Gomes and his wife Amber of Hubbardston and the late Joseph C. Gomes.  She was the sister of Margarida McGruk of Somerville, Natalia Oliveira of Lynn and Joao Bernardo Oliveira of FL. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday from 4-7 PM.  Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Saturday at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM.  Donations in Maria’s memory may be made to the Chapel of Our Savior, 475 Westgate Dr, Brockton, MA 02301.
