Maria J. (Medeiros) DeSousa, 98, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late João S. DeSousa. Daughter of the late Clementino and Evangelina (Moniz) Medeiros, she was born and raised in São Miguel, Azores, Portugal before moving to Stoughton over 50 years ago. Maria was a housewife. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Maria is survived by her children, Larry DeSousa and Olga Bento both of Stoughton, Donna Santos of Hyannis, Beverly Figueiredo of Arizona, John DeSousa of Connecticut and Maria DeSousa of Mansfield. She was the sister of Humberto Medeiros of Canada, Catarina Bostos of São Miguel, Azores and Tomas Medeiros of Tewksbury. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, funeral services are private with interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
