Maria Cecelia (DeAscensao) Medeiros, 60, died Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, after a long courageous period of declining health. Born on the island of Madeira in Portugal, daughter of Maria Conceicao (Teixeira) DeAscensao of Stoughton and the late Jose DeAscensao, she came to the United States as a child and settled in Stoughton. She was raised and educate in Stoughton and was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1982, and also earned her Associates Degree from Massasoit Community College in Brockton. Maria Cecelia worked for Northrup in Norwood for over 15 years and later at Power General in Canton for many years as an inspector and retired several years ago. She enjoyed reading and painting, but the thing that brought her the most joy was spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters.
In addition to her mother, Maria Conceicao DeAscensao of Stoughton, Maria Cecelia is survived by her three beloved sons, Derek A. Medeiros of Stoughton, Ryan A. Medeiros and Shane A. Medeiros, both of Brockton. She was the sister of Monica T. Avelar and her husband Renato of Berkley and is also survived by her loving granddaughters Riley and Cecelia.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 4-7 PM. Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Maria’s memory may be made to Multiple Sclerosis, 465 Waverly Oaks Rd, Suite 202, Waltham, MA 02452.
