Marguerite Kapualani Gillis, 72, died at Milton Hospital on Monday, August 31, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Daughter of the late Patrick J. and Alice N. (Eckartt) Gillis, she was born in Boston. Marguerite was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1961 and Bridgewater State College. She then earned her Master's Degree at the University of Guam and her Doctorate in Education from West Virginia University. Marguerite resided in Buda, TX for many years and was a Professor at the Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas for 20 years before retiring 5 years ago. She enjoyed reading and teaching.
Marguerite is survived by her siblings, Patrick J. Gillis, Jr. and his wife Regina of Hull and Elisabeth A. Gillis of Brockton. She was the aunt of Julie Tareco and her wife Lauren Harney, Tim Tareco, Angela Gillis and the late Richard Tareco and the great-aunt of Ariana and Alyssa Gillis.
Visitation will be held from Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, September 4 from 9-10 AM followed by a Memorial Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marguerite's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Assn., 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
