Manuel P. Diaz, 98, died Sunday, March 8, 2015, at the Brockton Hospital in Brockton after a short period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Mary N. (Gonsalves) Diaz. Born in Plymouth, he was raised and educated in Plymouth Schools. He was a longtime resident of Stoughton before moving to Bridgewater over 15 years ago. Manuel worked in the Calendar Department at Plymouth Rubber in Canton for over 39 years, retiring in 1979. After his retirement, he drove the Stoughton Senior transportation bus for over 15 years and also drove a limousine and cab for many years. Mr. Diaz was also active at Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton as an usher from 1937-1993. In his free time, he enjoyed making model cars, shuffleboard, bocce and was a bingo caller.
Mr. Diaz is survived by his three daughters; Maryann T. Hill and Lydia A. Vogel both of Mansfield and Elaine E. Landolfi of Bridgewater, as well as his longtime companion, Dorothy Merrill of Bridgewater. He was predeceased by 2 sisters and 3 brothers. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, March 12 at 11 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at Noon. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Manuel's memory may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368 or St. Ann Church, 103 N. Main St., W. Bridgewater, MA 02379.
