Manuel DeSousa Chaves

Manuel DeSousa Chaves, 73, a resident of Brockton, died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, November 14, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maria F. (Luz) Chaves for 48 years. Son of the late Jacinto and Virginia (Soares DeSousa) Sousa Chaves, he was born and raised on the island of Santa Maria in the Azores, Portugal. Manuel resided in Cambridge for 44 years before moving to Brockton almost 4 years ago. He worked in the maintenance department at Boston University for 22 years before retiring 7 years ago. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Manuel is survived by his children, Lisa L. Chaves of Stoughton, Steven L. Chaves and his wife Lauren of Tewksbury, Debbie L. Britto and her husband LeVar of Stoughton, Manuel S. Chaves, Jr. of Cambridge and Sabrina L. Chaves and her partner Marcus Mendonca of Cambridge as well as his grandchildren, Daniel, Jayde, L.J., Gianna, Olivia and Callie. He was the brother of the late Jose Chaves and is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Chico.
