Manuel P. DaSilva, 96, a resident of Randolph, died peacefully at home on Thursday, September 15, 2016. He was the husband of the late Maria C. (Brum) DaSilva. Son of the late Jose and Leonor (Pereira) DaSilva, he was born and raised in Santo Amaro, Faial, Azores, Portugal. Manuel moved to Cambridge in 1968 and resided there for many years. He has been a resident of Randolph since 1998. Mr. DaSilva was a barber in Faial and a stock man at Jordan Marsh in Quincy for many years. He was an avid musician who founded St. Anthony's Band in Cambridge, along with his 3 sons. He also played in Portuguese bands in Peabody and Lowell and enjoyed coin collecting.
Manuel is survived by his 10 children, Lina Camara of Canada, Josephina Pinheiro and Rogeiro DaSilva both of Cambridge, Manuel DaSilva of Somerville, Helder DaSilva of Malden, Amandio DaSilva of Lowell, Ligia Pacheco and Carlos DaSilva both of California, Alda Soares of Revere and Helia Cabral of Randolph. He was the brother of Conceicao Medeiros of Faial, Portugal and the late Jose DaSilva. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, September 21 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. In lieu of flowers, donations in Manuel's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
