M. Virginia Leaver, 88, died Friday, June 8, at the Stanley Tippett Hospice House in Needham after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late William and Mary Theresa (Travers) Leaver. Born in Roxbury, she was raised in Roxbury and Dorchester and was a graduate of St. John's School in Roxbury and Girls High in Boston. She was also a graduate of State Teachers College in Boston. Ms. Leaver was an elementary school teacher in the Boston School System for many years at the Joshua Bates School and other Boston Schools for many years, retiring over 28 years ago. She was a resident of East Dennis on Cape Cod for over 28 years. In her free time, she enjoyed needlepoint, crossword puzzles, reading and going to the beach.
She is survived by her brother Gerald J. Leaver of Stoughton. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers William Leaver, Thomas Leaver and Charles Peterson and her sister M. Suzanne Barcelou. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton on Monday, June 11, at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours will be held prior to Mass in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton from 9-10 AM. Donations in Ginny's name may be made to Tippett House, 920 South St., Needham, 02492. Burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.
