Lucille A. (Duff) Tyer, 78, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at Copley at Stoughton on Thursday, December 28, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of James H. Tyer, MD. Daughter of the late Thomas and Lucille (Devine) Duff, she was born in Orange, NJ and raised in Cornwall, NY. She was a graduate of Mt. St. Mary's High School and St. Vincent's School of Nursing in New York City. She was a resident of Stoughton since 1965. Lucille was a registered nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City then for the American Red Cross in Brockton before working for her husband's practice. She was a longtime member of Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton. She enjoyed playing golf, knitting, cooking and traveling the world, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, Lucille is survived by her children, James V. Tyer and his wife Laurie of Bedford, NH, Lynda A. Tyer-Viola and her husband Robert of Texas, Steven J. Tyer and his wife Colleen of Stoughton and MaryBeth O'Brien and her husband Michael of Easton. She was the grandmother of Sarah and Craig Tyer, Michael and Kevin Viola, Margaret and James Tyer and Julia and Carolyn O'Brien. She was the sister of Mary Lou Derwent of Indiana, twin brother Thomas J. Duff of Pennsylvania, JoAnn Palko of Connecticut, John F. Duff of Wayland and James R. Duff of Virginia. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday at 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 11:30 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will be private. Donations in Lucille's memory may be made to American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037.
