Leo A. Costa, 83, died at his home in Assonet on Thursday, July 22, 2010. He was the husband of Beverly A. (Tate) Costa. Born in Ludlow, MA, he was raised and educated in Clinton until the 8th grade. He then moved to Stoughton and was a graduate of Stoughton High School, class of 1945. He was a WWII Veteran of the US Army, where he served in the Philippines and in the Pacific. Mr. Costa was a resident of Assonet since 1968. He worked as a Self Employed Contractor for over 40 years. He later worked as a shipfitter for General Dynamics for over 10 years. He retired at age 65. He was a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, Fall River Lodge #118 for many years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Harold F. Costa of Assonet, Merelyn L. Gallagher of Leominster and Elizabeth A. St. Ours of RI. He was the brother of Manuel A. Costa of Stoughton and the late Cecil A. Costa. He was the grandfather of Michael, Peter and Jeremy Costa, Stacy Boumenot and Katelyn St. Ours. He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral Prayers will be offered in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Monday, July 26 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours prior to the prayers from 9-10 AM. Burial will take place at Assonet Burial Ground, Assonet.
