Kurtis Y. Hirose

Kurtis Y. Hirose, 62, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, February 9, 2025. He was born and raised in San Jose, CA and graduated from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. He resided in Stoughton for over 30 years. Kurtis moved to the East Coast after culinary school and was the Sous Chef for several years at The Pillar House in Newton, MA. He made the move from chef to commercial kitchen designer and worked for Cromwell Consulting in Stoughton for 19 years and most recently, for the past few years, at Harbour Food Service Equipment in Chelsea. Kurtis enjoyed what he did and took great pride in his work.

Although he hadn’t cooked professionally for several years, Kurtis was a foodie through and through and an incredible chef, and his friends and family enjoyed hundreds of his creations over the years. Kurtis was an avid reader and movie/TV buff. He had a dry sense of humor and was knowledgeable about a wide variety of subjects.

Kurtis was the father of Sachiko L. Hirose of Dennis and the late Cameron Y. Hirose. He was the brother of Jodi Wagner and her husband Rob of Tracy, CA, Keith Hirose and his wife Amy of San Jose, CA, their sons and grandsons, and several cousins and friends throughout California. He is also survived by his former wife, Janet A. (MacLaren) Wise of Dennis, and his mother, Haruko (Ogata) Hirose. He was preceded in death by his father, Yoshinobu Hirose.
