Julia A. (Gutantas) Chencus, 95, died Friday, August 20, at the Morton Hospital in Taunton, after a short period of failing health. She was the wife of the late John J. Chencus. Born and raised in Brockton, she was a graduate of Brockton Schools. She was a resident of Stoughton for over 50 years, before moving to Taunton over 20 years ago. She was a member of The Sewing Circle and the Stoughton Golden Agers. In her free time, she enjoyed playing bingo, knitting, crocheting, bowling and traveling.
She is survived by her children, Janet Aghjayan of Easton, Joseph M. Chencus and his wife Gail of NH and Edward J. Chencus and his wife Carol of N. Dighton. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Kristen Chencus and her brother John Gutantas. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral prayers will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday, August 24, at 11 AM. Visiting Hours prior to the prayers from 10-11 AM. Burial will take place at Melrose Cemetery. Donations in Julia's memory may be made to the Kristen Chencus Scholarship at the Jemicy School, 11 Celadon St., Owings Mills, MD 21117.
