Joseph R. Serpa, 84, died Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton. He was the husband of Maria J. (Coelho) Serpa. Born, raised and educated on the island of Flores in the Azores Islands of Portugal, he came to the States in the late 1960's and settled in Stoughton. He was the longtime owner of the Court Street Market in Brockton. Prior to owning the market, he worked for Plymouth Rubber in Canton for over 20 years. He retired in 2000. Mr. Serpa was a member of the San Joao Filharmonic Society and the Clube Luis de Camoes both in Stoughton. In his free time, he enjoyed soccer, fishing, making wine and spending time with his family.
Mr. Serpa was the father of Grace M. Serpa of Attleboro, Joseph Serpa and his wife Tammy of Taunton and the late Matilde M. Hayes. He was the brother of Francisco Rodrigues and Lena Garcia both of Stoughton and Helen Silva of RI. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday, September 26, from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
