Joseph F. Merola, 84, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of 38 years of Dorothy A. (Grudain) Merola and the late Theresa (Maloney) Merola. Born in Framingham, he was raised and educated in Hyde Park. He was a Veteran of the US Navy in WWII. He was a resident of Raynham since 1979, previously living in Stoughton for over 20 years. Mr. Merola worked as a Core Winder for Allis Chalmers in Hyde Park for over 26 years. He also worked as a landscaper for Red Barn Nursery and Beaver Nursery before becoming the founder and proprietor of Before and After Landscape Design. In his free time he enjoyed playing horseshoes and checkers, landscaping, spending time at the beach and greyhound racing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Donna Wresinski of Framingham, Linda Webber and Joseph F. Merola, Jr. both of SC and Laurie Rettig of Raynham. He was the stepfather of Linda Burke of Raynham and Betha Howell of ME. Brother of Paul Merola of Middleboro, Theresa Locarno of FL, Dottie Dolan of Jamaica Plain, Frank Merola of Easton, Nancy Whyte of Stoughton and the late John, William and Fred Merola. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Saturday, June 4 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 5-7 PM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
