Joseph A. McCarthy, 69, a longtime resident of Brockton, died unexpectedly at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Monday, February 9. He was the husband of Evelyn G. "Dunnie" (Gately) McCarthy. Born in South Boston, he was raised in "Southie" and graduated from Christopher Columbus High School, Class of 1957, in East Boston. He resided in Brockton for the past 36 years. Mr. McCarthy was an U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era. He worked in the revenue accounting department for Boston Edison and NSTAR for 39 years before retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Boston Edison Local 387 in Boston. He was a member of the Board of Directors with Members Plus Credit Union in Medford. He was an avid Irishman.
In addition to his wife, Mr. McCarthy is survived by his children, Dan McCarthy and his wife Tonia, Terri McCarthy and Sean McCarthy and his wife Marcy all of Brockton, as well as his grandchildren, Alison, Brianna, Kevin, Joshua and Steven. He was the brother of John McCarthy and his wife Julie of Braintree and the late Marie Langsan. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Friday, February 13 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Brockton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday 4-8 PM. Burial will take place at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
