Joseph A. Lane, 85, died Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Blue Hills Alzheimer's Care Center in Stoughton after a long period of failing health. He was the husband of 61 years of Marie A. (McDonald) Lane. Born in Newton, he attended Newton Schools. Mr. Lane was a Veteran of the US Army, serving in Germany during the Korean War Era. He was a longtime employee of the Sherman Paper and Ivex Company in Newton, retiring after 42 years of service at age 64. He was a former Scoutmaster for Troop 16 in Stoughton and was a Little League Coach for several years. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed making and selling mailboxes that were shipped all over the country.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four sons: Joseph A. Lane, Jr. of Stoughton, Edward F. Lane of Dracut, David R. Lane of Attleboro and Richard A. Lane of Somerville. He was the brother of Frank Lane of Billerica, Martha Sonnier of LA, Virginia Dolph of Newton, Barbara Vlass of Natick and the late Doreen Sheridan, Graham "Sonny" Lane, Enid DeDoming and Patricia Martin. He was predeceased by 1 granddaughter. Mr. Lane is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Procession will be assembling at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday at 9:20 AM followed by Graveside Services at the Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West St, Braintree at 10AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 4-7 PM. Donations in Joe's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452.
