Joseph D. Green, 86, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died at home on Saturday, February 2 after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Doris T. (Cushing) Green. Born in Stoughton, he was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1941. Mr. Green was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps 3rd Marine Division and a Veteran of World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific and participated in action in Bouganville, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima, for which he was awarded a Bronze Star. He was a machinist at Westinghouse in Hyde Park for 35 years before retiring in 1984.

Mr. Green was a member of the VFW Post 1645, American Legion Post 89, Knights of Columbus Council 200 and the CW Welch Memorial all in Stoughton. He was Past President of the 3rd AMTRAC Battalion Assn. An avid bowler, he also played Stoughton Trojans Football for several years before and after the war.

Mr. Green is survived by his children, Joseph D. Green, Jr. and Patricia A. Walker both of Stoughton, Ellen F. Conrad of S. Easton and Lauren T. Taylor of Bourne. He was the brother of Marguerite Anagnoston, Beatrice Fay and Catherine Darling all of Stoughton, Rosemarie Atkinson of Brockton and the late Winifred Stewart, Edith Lowell and Leo Green Jr. He was also survived by 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, February 7 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday 4-8 PM. Burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton. Donations in Joseph's memory may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368.
