Joseph W. Gill, 83, died Thursday, December 25, at the VA Medical Center in West Roxbury after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Anne (Collins) Gill. Born in Stoughton, he was a lifelong resident of Stoughton and a graduate of Stoughton Schools. He also attended Boston Trade School in Boston. Mr. Gill was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy. He worked as a Machinist at Gill Machine Shop in Stoughton for many years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Randolph, the VFW Post 1645 and Amvets Post 1977 both in Stoughton and the Canton Town Club. In his free time he enjoyed cooking and watching sports.
He is survived by his three sons: William J. Gill of Norton, James M. Gill and Paul E. Gill both of Stoughton. He was predeceased by his son Thomas T. Gill, his daughter Patricia E. Gill and his siblings; Justin, Felix, Charles, Frank and Edward Gill, Josephine Heylin, Angelina McCormick and Carolyn Burke. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, December 29 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday 2-5 PM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton.
